Rangers Roundup: Tavares likely to stay put, Kovalchuk news, and more

Today’s latest news surrounding the Rangers.
Tavares to Stay Put?
John Tavares was believed to be hitting the free agent market this July. Then the Islanders decided to make a big move in desperation of keeping their homegrown star. The hiring of Lou Lamoriello was done by ownership with both GM, Garth Snow and Coach, Doug Weight having no knowledge.
The addition seems to be working as Tavares was pleased with the move and has come back to the table to negotiate with the Islanders. It looks like the odds of him staying on the Island are very good.
Kovalchuk and Tavares Together?
We learned yesterday that Kovalchuk switched agents, now working with JP Barry who also represents John Tavares. Could the sniper be lining up with John Tavares next season? Let’s not forget that Lou Lamoriello was the GM that acquired and signed Ilya Kovalchuk in NJ. It’s a possibility that can’t be ruled out.
Rangers Draft Party Sells Out…in hours!
The Rangers announced a draft party and it sold out in about 2 hours. If that doesn’t tell you how excited Rangers fans are about the hiring of David Quinn and the new direction, I don’t know what will.
