Rangers Roundup: Trade Freeze over, Lemieux breaks hand, Panarin leads way over Canes

The Rangers beat a very good Carolina team at the Garden 5-3. Once again it was Henrik Lundqvist continuing his ownership of the Canes, but Artemiy Panarin was the offensive engine that led the victory with a goal and two helpers.

A Joy to Watch

Panarin’s 3 point game now has him with 21 goals and 48 points in 37 games this season. His ability to score goals is second to none on this team as there is no one more lethal in tight.

However, when the Canes cut the lead to 4-3 late in the third, it was an incredible pass to Ryan Strome that sealed the deal. I assure you, it is one of the more impressive plays you’ll see all season because of his speed, vision, and accuracy.

Bad Break

After the game, David Quinn delivered the bad news that Brendan Lemieux broke his hand and is out indefinitely. I’d say this is another missed opportunity for Lias Andersson who has left to team after demanding to be traded. It is likely Phil Di Giuseppe will be recalled.

Trade Freeze Over, Andersson not drawing interest

The trade freeze is now over and according to Larry Brooks there is little interest in Lias Andersson.

The Post has been told by individuals with knowledge of the situation that there has been little interest shown in the No. 7-overall selection of the 2017 draft. The 21-year-old Andersson has recorded nine points (3-6) in 66 NHL games while posting 39 points (15-24) in 74 career AHL contests.

I have to wonder if the Rangers and Andersson can come to an agreement to lift the suspension and have him report to the Rangers to replace Lemieux. It could help build his trade value, but it also sends a terrible message to other young players in the organization. I doubt it happens, but it is a possible option.
