Rangers speaking with Lias Andersson, does he deserve a spot on extended roster

There is no need to rehash all the drama that surrounded Lias Andersson and the Rangers this season. Anyone who reads this site is well versed on the entire sequence of events that now have Andersson possibly added to the expanded post season roster. The question of course is simple, does he deserve a spot?

Improved Relationship

When Lias bolted the Wolf Pack after demanding a trade, it took John Davidson and the organization by surprise to say the least. The Rangers President from the get-go was genuinely concerned about Andersson and wanted to know more. They eventually connected and allowed the young forward to be loaned to HV71 of the SHL.

On a call yesterday with the media, JD mentioned that both he and David Quinn have spoken to Andersson during the pause. It was also noted that the Rangers have not made any final decisions on whom they will add to their expanded roster of 28 skaters and 3 goalies.

Does Andersson Deserve a Shot?

Should the Rangers add Andersson to the expanded roster is a legit question and depends on what camp you fall in. If you are of the belief that any player who demands a trade and then walks away deserves nothing, then obviously you don’t. However, Andersson did manage to distinguish himself with HV71.

In 15 games, the Rangers former first round draft pick scored 7 goals and 12 points (.80 pts/gm). Two tallies were game winners and he made a mark on the PP with 4 goals all while averaging over 15 minutes per game. So by his play alone, he deserves serious consideration, let’s say over a Tim Gettinger who has 27 points in 56 games (.48 pts/gm) for Hartford. Whether the Rangers give him a shot or not remains to be seen, but I am thinking it is more likely now they do.
