Ryan Callahan Remains In Tampa, NYR Fans Need to LET IT GO!
Ryan Callahan has re-uped with the Lightning for 6 years at 5.5 million a season. This now closes out the Callahan Saga that consumed so many NYR fans last season…or did it?
Last night when the news broke out, everybody and their grandmother had a comment on it. Matter of fact, it’s still going. When you stop and think, it’s funny actually, kind of like the way you would react when you hear news about an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend.
Seriously, how about we all realize – THIS IS A BUSINESS! Ryan Callahan loved being a Ranger, his agent overshot the market and got burned. Glen Sather may have even acquiesced if not for the gift of Marty St. Louis wanting to be traded – and only to the Rangers.
Bottom line – Callahan took a little less in Tampa Bay because there is no State Income Tax. In essence, he got close to what he was asking for in both salary and years.
The move is cap friendly for Tampa who also bought out Ryan Malone. The big forward was arrested for DUI and possession late this year. So TB now has about 9M in cap space to improve on defense and up front.
The Rangers’ benefit as well, because Cally’s re-signing earned them a 2nd round pick.
Time to move on folks…
