The Long Island native is spending the summer playing for Buffalo in 3ICE, an eight-team, 3-on-3 professional tournament being held at Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Panthers’ training facility.

“I just want to keep playing. We’ll see what happens,” Kinkaid told NHL.com.

Ken Daneyko, who won the Stanley Cup as a defenseman with the  New Jersey Devils in 1995, 2000 and 2003, is coaching 3ICE New York/New Jersey and got a close-up look at Kinkaid on Wednesday when his team lost 4-1 to Buffalo. The Devils longtime TV analyst, was impressed with the play of Kinkaid, who helped New Jersey reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2017-18 when he was 26-10-3 with a 2.77 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.

“I saw how incredible he was with us in New Jersey over the years, especially in 2018 when he got us into the playoffs,” Daneyko said. “He looks like he still has it. He showed that against us.”

Kinkaid played nine games (seven starts) with the Rangers in 2020-21, finishing with a 3-2-1 record, 2.59 GAA, one shutout and a save percentage of .898. He became the ninth U.S.-born goalie to play for the Rangers, joining Jack McCartan (the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold-medal winner), Joe Schaefer, John Vanbiesbrouck, Mike Richter, Mike Dunham, Steve Baker, Guy Hebert and Brandon Halverson.

Jonathan Quick, a Connecticut native and current backup to Igor Shesterkin, became the 10th in 2023-24.

Kinkaid won his only appearance with the Blueshirts in 2021-22, making 29 saves in a 3-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 15, 2021. He spent the rest of that season with Hartford, the Rangers’ AHL affiliate, where he was 20-14-3 with a 2.94 GAA, .904 save percentage and three shutouts that season.

Kinkaid’s last NHL appearance was March 4, 2023, when he allowed one goal on nine shots in a relief role for the Colorado Avalanche against the Dallas Stars. His last start and win came on Nov. 12, 2022, when he made 30 saves in a 3-1 win for the Boston Bruins against the Buffalo Sabres.

He split the rest of 2022-23 between the AHL affiliates of the Bruins and Avalanche and played for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL in 2023-24. Kinkaid got a PTO from the Islanders last year but failed to make the team at training camp. So, he spent the season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates, the Florida Panthers’ ECHL affiliate.

Kinkaid had 30 saves in two wins for Buffalo on Wednesday, leading his team into the championship round on Aug. 14. Buffalo was on the outside of the championship round entering Wednesday, but by beating Chicago 4-2 before topping Daneyko’s NY/NJ team, Kinkaid helped his club not only get into the final day, but grab the top seed in the tournament.

“I knew we needed to win, and I knew I needed to be dialed in early,” Kinkaid said.

Buffalo will face No. 4 Minnesota in the first semifinal; No. 2 NY/NJ will play No. 3 Tennessee in the other semifinal. The winners will meet for the league title.

Of all the players in the 3ICE tournament, Kinkaid has the most NHL experience — 10 seasons, six of them with New Jersey, where he was 64-55-17 with a 2.90 GAA, .906 save percentage and seven shutouts in 151 games (132 starts). He is 0-2 with a 5.88 GAA and .804 save percentage in two Stanley Cup Playoff games, both for New Jersey in 2018.

Kinkaid is 70-58-21 in the NHL with a 2.91 GAA, .905 save percentage and eight shutouts in 169 games (146 starts) with the Devils, Montreal Canadiens, Rangers, Bruins and Avalanche from 2012-23. He doesn’t have a contract for 2025-26 after posting a 10-18-3 record with a 3.17 GAA, .893 save percentage and one shutout in 32 games for Savannah.

But his strong play with 3ICE Buffalo might help him change that, and Kinkaid said he’s ready to go.

“This is a great opportunity to show I still have it,” Kinkaid explained. “My body is holding up very well. I am 36, but I am just trying to prolong my career because once it’s done, it’s done. [3ICE] has given me the chance to keep playing, to showcase that I still have gas left in the tank. It has been a tough couple of years just bouncing around, but hopefully someone calls and I get the chance to play again this season.

“Any opportunity is fine with me.”

Former Rangers goalie Keith Kinkaid tries to finish ‘Metropolitan-area trio’ with Islanders PTO https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/nhl-news-and-rumors/keith-kinkaid-islanders-pto Fri, 13 Sep 2024 12:24:24 +0000 https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/?p=454389 Keith Kinkaid, who spent parts of two seasons as a backup goaltender with the New York Rangers, was at rookie camp with the New York Islanders on Thursday on a PTO. The 35-year-old is one of three goalies listed on the rookie roster.

Kinkaid is a Long Island native, who worked out this summer at the Islanders practice facility before landing the PTO.

“I did grow up an Islander fan,” Kinkaid said Thursday. “I loved coming to the [Nassau] Coliseum. That was always a joy of my life. It’s really cool. I played for the Devils and Rangers, I’m hoping we can make the Tri-State or Metropolitan-area trio.”

Kinkaid played nine games (seven starts) with the Rangers in 2020-21, when he had a 3-2-1 record, 2.59 goals-against average, one shutout and a save percentage of .898. He became the ninth U.S.-born goalie to play for the Rangers, joining Jack McCartan (the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold-medal winner), Joe Schaefer, John Vanbiesbrouck, Mike Richter, Mike Dunham, Steve Baker, Guy Hebert and Brandon Halverson. Jonathan Quick, a Connecticut native and the Rangers’ current backup to Igor Shesterkin, became the 10th last season.

He won his only appearance with them in 2021-22, making 29 saves in a 3-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 15, 2021. Kinkaid spent the rest of that season with Hartford, the Rangers AHL affiliate, where he was 20-14-3 with a 2.94 GAA, .904 save percentage and three shutouts.

The New Jersey Devils signed Kinkaid as an undrafted free agent in April 2011. Current Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello was GM of the Devils at the time and signed him after he played two seasons at Union College.

He had an NHL career-high 26 wins, when he helped the Devils reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2017-18. That was the first of two consecutive seasons when he played in 41 games for the Devils.

“Lou knows me from the beginning of my career, so I’m hoping that I can show [the Islanders] what I’ve still got,” he said.

Kinkaid could become the 12th all-time to play for the Rangers, Devils and Islanders. But there’s a long way to go to even consider that. The Islanders are set with Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov on the varsity. And Kinkaid still needs to impress enough here in September to even land a minor league deal.

“I’m just putting my best foot forward. Be a pro, be a rookie, but just bring some experience,
Kinkaid explained. “Kinda show the way. This is my 14th season. I just want to do anything I can to turn heads. Still got a lot left in the tank and, yeah, go from there.”

Three other goalies played for each of the three Metro-area teams: Dunham, Vanbiesbrouck and Kevin Weekes.

The personable Kinkaid, nicknamed “Blockade,” played last season with Chicago of the AHL, appearing in 24 games with an 8-14-2 record, 3.54 GAA and .880 save percentage.

His last NHL action was in 2023, when he was 1-0-0 with the Boston Bruins before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche. Kinkaid played 28 minutes in relief with a no decision for Colorado on March 4, 2023.

Kinkaid has appeared in 169 NHL games, with a 70-58-21 record, 2.91 GAA, .905 save percentage and eight shutouts for the Devils, Montreal Canadiens, Rangers, Bruins and Avalanche. That record includes a 2-2-0 mark in five appearances against the Rangers.

New York Rangers add 7 Wolf Pack players for Stanley Cup Playoffs https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/new-york-rangers-analysis/new-york-rangers-add-7-wolf-pack-players Sat, 30 Apr 2022 17:59:41 +0000 https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/?p=416146 [sendtonews key=”peKAXibZ” type=”player”]

The New York Rangers made the call-ups of seven members of the Hartford Wolf Pack official. They are as follows:

  • Zac Jones (D)
  • Nils Lundkvist (D)
  • Jarred Tinordi (D)
  • Matthew Robertson (D)
  • Tim Gettinger (F)
  • Lauri Pajuniemi (F)
  • Keith Kinkaid (G)

On Tuesday, the Blueshirts will open their first round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden. For a full look at the schedule with dates, start times, and TV info please click here.

New York Rangers add to roster for playoffs

In the NHL Playoffs there are no roster limits and no salary cap. This allowed the Rangers to add to their deep pool of reserves for what they hope is a long post season run.

If you are wondering why a player like Bobby Trivigno was not included it’s because of CBA rules. A player is only eligible to join the team for the playoffs if they were under contract and their rights belonged to the Rangers prior to the NHL Trade Deadline on March 21.

Trivigno signed on April 1.

Of the seven players added today, Lauri Pajuniemi and Matthew Robertson were the biggest surprises. I felt that Anthony Greco, who played for the Rangers during the regular season would’ve been given consideration.

A look at the Rangers extras

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

If the New York Rangers are fully healthy for Game 1 on Tuesday, the 7 players from Hartford will lineup behind the these current reserves on the depth chart.

  • Ryan Reaves (F)
  • Tyler Motte (F – injured)
  • Jonny Brodzinski (F)
  • Greg McKegg (F)
  • Justin Braun (D)
  • Libor Hajek (D)

Now let’s take a quick look at the Wolf Pack extras in order of their likelihood to play:

Zac Jones, 21, played 12 games with the Rangers this season and tallied two assists. With the Wolf Pack he was their leading scoring defenseman with 35 points in 52 games. He is without a doubt the most likely player to see playoff action– maybe even over Hajek.

Jarred Tinordi, 30, was signed to a two-year contract in the summer and started the season with the Rangers. He played in 7 games this year with 1 goal. In Hartford, he picked up 5 points in 32 games. He’s a rugged defensemen with 109 games of NHL experience.

Nils Lundkvist, 21, made the Rangers out of training camp but struggled to find consistency in his first year in North America. In 25 NHL games, he notched 4 points (1G – 3A) and then posted 15 points with the Wolf Pack after being sent down in January. The Rangers have high hopes for the first round pick (28th overall) from the 2018 Draft.

Keith Kinkaid, 32, posted a .904 SV% and a 2.94 GAA for the Pack this season. Last year, Kinkaid earned his stripes with the organization stepping in when Igor Shesterkin was hurt and Alexandar Georgiev was struggling. He posted a 3-2-1 record during that stint. This season, he made one start and recored a 3-2 win over the Coyotes in December.

Tim Gettinger, 24, put up 25 points in 45 games with the Pack. He also played 8 games this season for the big club with no points and three shots.

Matthew Robertson, 21, played in his first pro season and put up 11 points in 65 games for Hartford. He is a left defenseman that could make the club in the future.

Lauri Pajuniemi, 22, had a nice first season coming over from Finland. He recorded 26 points in 51 games which included 13 goals.

Who can the New York Rangers sign to back up Igor Shesterkin next season? https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/new-york-rangers-analysis/new-york-rangers-backup-igor-shesterkin Thu, 31 Mar 2022 18:34:05 +0000 https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/?p=414568 [sendtonews key=”peKAXibZ” type=”player”]

The New York Rangers will be looking for a new back up goalie next season.

Alexandar Georgiev has expressed a desire for more playing time and a chance at a starter’s role dating back to this past offseason. Plus, the pending RFA with arbitration rights is due a qualifying offer of $2.425 Million which is equal to his current salary.

That’s probably about $925K to $1.425M more than they want to spend for a backup goalie. Per CapFriendly, the Rangers will have approximately $11.7M in cap space with 16 players under contract.

It isn’t much to work with, especially if you want to re-sign Andrew Copp, Frank Vatrano, and Tyler Motte. Did I mention that Kaapo Kakko and Ryan Strome need new deals? That’s why you can quickly see the need to spend only about $1M to $1.5M on a backup.

New York Rangers back up goalie options

While the Rangers likely have a very small budget for a new back up goalie, they also want a goalie that can handle playing 1 game every 1.5 to 2 weeks. That usually means a veteran as the best option.

Here’s a list of five quality goalies that may fit the Blueshirts needs.

Thomas Greiss: Detroit Red Wings, 36 years-old (2021-22: 8-11-1-0, 2.79 GAA, .885 SV%)

My favorite candidate to backup Igor Shesterkin is Greiss. Ever hear of the saying, ‘if you can’t beat em’? Well, the Rangers can’t beat Greiss.

In his career, he’s 6-0-1 with a .931 SV% and a 2.44 GAA against the Blueshirts.

new york rangers backup
Jessica Alcheh-USA TODAY Sports

Craig Anderson: Buffalo Sabres, 40 years-old (2021-22: 12-9-2-0, 3.07 GAA, .902 SV%)

In my mind, a backup needs to be a battler and there’s no one more battle-tested than Craig Anderson. While the Sabres have improved this season, he deserves a lot of credit for whatever success Buffalo has had this season.

The Sabres are reportedly interested in bringing him back.

Jaroslav Halak: Vancouver Canucks, 36 years-old (2021-22: 3-7-2-0, 3.18 GAA, .894 SV%)

Halak knows what life is like playing in the Eastern Conference and has gone to war with the Rangers over the years as a member of the Islanders and Bruins.

He can still play and post decent numbers as a backup as he barely gets playing time with Thatcher Demko in front of him.

Casey DeSmith: Pittsburgh Penguins, 30 years-old (2021-22: 6-4-4-2, 2.96 GAA, .905 SV%)

Another goalie the Rangers should be familiar with is Penguins backup DeSmith. He’s currently making $1.250 Million against the cap and even a little raise keeps him in the sweet spot.

Keith Kinkaid: New York Rangers, 32 years-old (2021-22: 1-0-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .935 SV%)

The best and possibly cheapest option is extending current Wolf Pack goalie Kinkaid.

A small increase from his current $825K cap hit would be perfect and he’s proven that he can do the backup role well in New York.

Yesterday, the team had to place both Alexandar Georgiev and Ryan Lindgren on the COVID-19 protocol list. They were just two of over 40 players that were added as the NHL re-opened to teams for testing.

Rangers recall Keith Kinkaid

Kinkaid, 32, won his only start during his last call up. In the Rangers 3-2 win against the Coyotes, he surrendered two goals on 31 shots while posting a .935 SV%.

The veteran netminder has proven to be a valuable backup dating back to last season. When Shesterkin went down with injury midway through the 2020-21 campaign, Kinkaid stepped in and played well. He posted a 2.59 GAA with a SV% of .898. In his NHL career he’s 69-58-21 with a 2.92 GAA and a respectable .905 SV%.

Georgiev, 25, was playing his best hockey before the break and helped keep the Blueshirts afloat. In Shesterkin’s absence the Rangers went 4-3-1. Georgiev posted a 3-2-1record that boasted a .931 SV% and 2.00 GAA during that span. Kinkaid picked up the other win, with Adam Huska acting as the sacrificial lamb against the Colorado Avalanche for the other loss.

New York Rangers will have taxi squad as an option when they return https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/new-york-rangers-analysis/new-york-rangers-will-have-taxi-squad-as-an-option-when-they-return Sun, 26 Dec 2021 20:30:25 +0000 https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/?p=409640 The NHL and NHLPA are working to enhance roster protections and at the forefront of that conversation will be the use of taxi squads.

Since the league shutdown for an extend holiday break, they’ve been working on how to handle the issues with COVID-19 cases and subsequent postponement of games. In a new report from Elliotte Friedman here’s what teams will have at their disposal starting soon.

  • Taxi-squad through All-Star break (Feb 4-5)
  • Emergency call-ups (player must make $1M or less)
  • Free goalie adds if club has less than 2 healthy goalies due to COVID

Rangers can use Taxi Squads

Now that taxi squads are back, it would be wise for the New York Rangers to use them. However, the rules will be different this season as players who are waiver exempt can’t be placed on them. That immediately means players like Zac Jones and Morgan Barron can only be regular call-ups from Hartford.

Last season, waiver exempt players could be placed on the taxi squad to travel and practice with the team. Here are the full rules:

  • Optional and max six players
  • No player can be on it for more than 20 days
  • No player on an NHL roster as of 12/22 can be on it
  • No player who is waiver exempt
  • Anyone who was on the roster for 75% of the season or 16 of last 20 games

Emergency call-ups will be cap exempt if the team is in danger of dressing less than your standard 18 skaters and two goalie lineup. However, that player’s salary can’t exceed $1 million.

Possible Rangers taxi squad

new york rangers taxi squad
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Now that there is clarity on the rules, it makes picking out a taxi squad that much easier. Here’s six potential candidates.

Keith Kinkaid (G): The veteran backup is a no-brainer to be the taxi squad goalie. In his one game this season he beat the the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 and looked solid. Kinkaid requires waivers, but already made it through once.

Anthony Bitetto (D): The defenseman from Long Island, NY had a nice little run with the team last season. He provided a few sparks and was great for the locker-room. His 197 NHL games experience is invaluable. Bitetto requires waivers.

Anthony Greco (F): The 28 year-old forward has been solid scoring 21 points in 22 games in the AHL. He can certainly help in a pinch and potential provided some offensive punch.

Jonny Brodzinski: He’s the captain of the Wolf Pack and has received praised for his leadership and playing a complete game every night. The 28 year-old also has 62 games of NHL experience. In 23 games with the Pack he has 24 points.

Tim Gettinger (F): A big man that has NHL experience, who could contribute decent 4th line minutes if needed. Gettinger has 16 points in 21 AHL games, but that has never translated to the NHL level. In 8 games with the Rangers he has one point.

Ty Ronning (F): The 24 year-old son of Cliff Ronning, who was a star for the 1994 Canucks team that lost to the Rangers in the Finals would be another option. The winger has 13 points in 23 games with the Wolf Pack. He’s never played an NHL game.

Update: Additional clarifications have been posted to the rules. Waiver exempt players are allowed on the taxi squad. Here’s the latest.

Projecting a possible New York Rangers taxi squad when the season resumes https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/new-york-rangers-news/projecting-a-possible-new-york-rangers-taxi-squad-when-the-season-resumes Fri, 24 Dec 2021 15:19:59 +0000 https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/?p=409611 As the New York Rangers and 31 other teams enjoy the holiday break, the NHL is hard at work to reschedule games and figure out how to complete an 82 game schedule. One possibility is bringing back taxi squads to limit further postponements.

During the 2020-21 season, the NHL shortened the season to 56 games and implemented a taxi squad for each team. It would consist of 4-6 players with at least one goalie. Those players traveled and practiced with the team and were available to be recalled on short notice to deal with COVID related issues.

It should also be noted that the taxi squad call up rules were similar to that of AHL call ups and players that were waivers eligible must pass through.

Projecting a New York Rangers taxi squad

Whether or not the NHL reinstates the use of taxi squads, it would be a valuable exercise to determine who would be on it.

Last season, the Rangers opened the year with the following players on their taxi-squad: Morgan Barron, Anthony Bitetto, Colin Blackwell, Libor Hajek, Keith Kinkaid, and Matthew Robertson.

That changed many times during the season, as all but Matthew Robertson were used at some point. Let’s examine just who would make the squad this year.

Keith Kinkaid (G): The veteran backup is a no-brainer to be the taxi squad goalie. In his one game this season he beat the the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 and looked solid. Kinkaid requires waivers, but already made it through once.

Morgan Barron (F): New York has already called him up a few times and played in two games this season with no points. While it would make sense for him to get game action in Hartford, the fact he doesn’t require waivers makes him an attractive option.

Barron on the draw (Photo: Kelly Shea/Wolf Pack)

Zac Jones (D): Many argue he should have made the team out of camp, and it would be hard to refute. He leads all Wolf Pack d-men in points with 17 in 21 games. Similar to Barron, it would be better to play but his waiver exempt status comes into the decision.

Tim Gettinger (F): A big man that has NHL experience, who could contribute decent 4th line minutes if needed. Gettinger has 16 points in 21 AHL games, but that has never translated to the NHL level. In 8 games with the Rangers he has one point. Gettinger requires waivers.

Anthony Bitetto (D): The defenseman from Long Island, NY had a nice little run with the team last season. He provided a few sparks and was great for the locker-room. His 197 NHL games experience is invaluable. Bitetto requires waivers.

Anthony Greco (F): While I would rather take Jonny Brodzinski, taking away all these players plus the Wolf Pack captain didn’t feel right. Greco has been solid scoring 21 points in 22 games in the AHL. He has to pass through waivers.

Kaapo Kakko lifts Rangers over Coyotes 3-2; Panarin exits game with lower-body injury https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/new-york-rangers-games/kaapo-kakko-lifts-rangers-over-coyotes-3-2-panarin-exits-game-with-lower-body-injury Thu, 16 Dec 2021 05:07:16 +0000 https://www.foreverblueshirts.com/?p=409291 The New York Rangers went into Arizona to face the NHL’s worst team in the Coyotes and struggled for half the game. Things actually looked bleak before Chris Kreider went from goal scorer to playmaker to get the offense going.

In the end, Keith Kinkaid made the stops and Kaapo Kakko scored two key goals to get the Rangers a win.

“We just kept battling and battling,” Kinkaid said afterwards. “Making plays at the end was the key.”

Recap: Rangers 3 vs Coyotes 2

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Blueshirts, who should have come out with a measure of urgency to their game had a forgettable first period and a half.

Arizona fired 13 shots on Kinkaid in the first, who struggled with a few shots that went five-hole. Libor Hajek bailed him out by sweeping a puck that went though his legs away from the goal-line. However, he wasn’t as lucky when a harmless looking shorthanded wrist shot by Loui Eriksson squeaked through the wickets for a Yotes’ 1-0 lead with 2:14 to go.

The start of the second period looked even worse than the first for the Rangers. Out of the gate, the Rangers took an icing and then seemed to be a step behind for first half of the middle stanza. Things got worse when Artemi Panarin left the game with a lower-body injury that Gerard Gallant termed “minor” and “day-to-day.

They finally snapped out of it on a delayed penalty. Kaapo Kakko would put home the rebound of a Mika Zibanejad shot to tie the game with 9:20 left to play. Chris Kreider would get an assist and tied Andy Hebenton for 20th all-time in Rangers scoring with 368 points.

Kakko and PP lifts Rangers to win

The Rangers showed life heading into the third by outshooting the Coyotes 15-8 in the second. However, a Jacob Trouba high-stick meant they would need to kill a penalty to start the third.

Our game was a lot better (in the second), we were more on the attack,” Barclay Goodrow said after the period. “I think we still have a little more to give.”

New York would find that “little more” after the Coyotes took a 2-1 lead 8:47 off the stick of Clayton Keller. What saved them? The power play.

Zibanejad took his old spot on the PP with Panarin out. The Blueshirts leading goal scorer over the last two seasons ripped a wicked wrist shot to tie the game with 5:46 left. Adam Fox picked up the assist, as did Kreider.

“I like the way we battled back,” Zibanejad said. “Power play came up big.”

There’s a good reason why the Arizona Coyotes are the worst team in the NHL. With 2:59 left on the clock, they made a poor line change and were called for a Too many men penalty.

It took the Blueshirts highly-rated PP 41 seconds to put the nail in the Yotes’ coffin. Ryan Strome found Kreider at the side of the net, who fed Kakko in front for his second of the night and eventual game-winner.

“I got a chance on the first power play. I didn’t know it was that simple to go to the net and keep your stick down,” Kakko said with a smile.

“You’ve got to dig down and find a way,” Gallant said. “Our guys looked tired on the bench and they were dragging their feet. We found some extra energy and it was a huge two points for us.”

Notable Rangers

  • Keith Kinkaid battled the puck early but finished with 29 saves on 31 shots
  • Mika Zibanejad scored his 6th goal of the season, 4th on the PP
  • Kaapo Kakko broke a 10 game goal drought and an 7 game pointless streak
  • Chris Kreider had his first multi-assist game of the season, takes sole possession of 20th on all-time scoring list (370)

Tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 16): Day off

Next Game: Friday, Dec. 17 vs. Vegas Golden Knights (7:00 PM ET – TV: MSG)

Today, the team recalled Keith Kinkaid from the Wolf Pack.

Keith Kinkaid was unavailable to be called up initially due to COVID protocols that impacted the Hartford Wolf Pack.

The 32 year-old backup is now with the Rangers as Adam Huska was sent down along with Morgan Barron on Thursday.

Kinkaid was 3-2-1 in 9 appearances last season with Shesterkin went down with injury. His GAA was 2.59 with a SV% of .898. In his NHL career he’s 68-58-21 with a 2.93 GAA and a respectable .905 SV%.

As for Shesterkin, until he’s skating with the team at practice it is unlikely he will be getting into game action.

Shesterkin had to be helped off the ice at 5:08 of the third period of a 1-0 win over the San Jose Sharks on December 3rd. He appeared to be dealing with a right leg injury after making a save and diving on the rebound during a scrum in front of the net.

Alexandar Georgiev is expected to start against the Sabres on Friday.
