Tony DeAngelo and Ryan Strome file for arbitration as negotiations stall

The deadline to file for player elected salary arbitration is 5PM EST today. So far, the two biggest RFAs the Rangers have just filed and can schedule a hearing between October 20th and November 8th.

Don’t read too much into the filings

Although both Stome and DeAngelo have been in the trade rumor mill, don’t make too much of this move. As I already noted, today is the deadline, and it is possible that Brendan Lemieux and Alexandar Georgiev will file as well.

Matter of fact, if deals aren’t announced soon for both that’s what I expect them to do. If they don’t then they lose their arbitration rights and no good agent will allow that. Should they not file and a deal has not been announced by 5PM, then one is likely very close.

As far as Ryan and Tony go, they are both due heavy increases and these were going to be tough negotiations anyway. My guess is Strome more so than DeAngelo could be dealt. Should that be the case, the team acquiring would have to honor the hearing if they don’t hammer out a deal in time.
