Update on Mika Zibanejad’s condition expected at Rangers practice today

Rangers fans collectively held their breaths last night at the sight of Mika Zibanejad losing an edge and slamming into the boards. The incident occurred late in the third period with the Rangers trying to mount a comeback, but eventually falling short 4-3 to the Devils.

After he went down, Zibanejad got up gingerly and decided to slowly head to the bench. There were several minutes left in the game, but Mika did not play another shift.

During the MSG Broadcast, Mika was in discernible discomfort. It was highlighted during the Rangers timeout as he sat at the end of the bench shaking his head and grimacing.

The Blueshirts will practice at the MSG Training Center today starting at 12:00 PM ET. There’s a good chance that Zibanejad will not skate, but everyone should wait until head coach David Quinn updates the media afterwards.

He could be simply banged up and sore. A maintenance day will probably do him good as the Rangers are slated to practice tomorrow as well.

With a game against the high scoring Penguins, who won last last in OT, not having Zibanejad would hurt. Ryan Strome will need to pick up his game and Filip Chytil will be given a chance to shine as well.
