Kuriren.nu

Day 1 of the World Junior Summer Showcase was eventful for Ranger fans. 4 prospects played in the 2 games. Let’s start with the bad news.

Lundkvist injured

Nils Lundkvist suffered a non-contact injury in Sweden’s 4-2 loss to USA Blue. While skating towards the Sweden goal trying to defend a rush the young Swedish defenseman, who turned 19 on the day of the game, lost his footing and landed awkwardly. He limped to the bench and will be evaluated by the medical staff later today.

Lundkvist, who is projected to be a top pair defenseman for Luleå HF in the Swedish Hockey League this upcoming season, spent the summer in North America to familiarize himself with the new prospects. One of those new prospects, Karl Henriksson, also played in the game but had an uneventful showing.

Nils Lundkvist is expected to fly back to Sweden once the medical tests are concluded, to focus on the start to the season in Europe. Luleå plays games in Germany and the Czech Republic in early September and we all hope he will be ready to go for those games.

Rangers prospect Jones with an apple

In the other game that was played on Saturday, Rangers 3rd round pick Zac Jones had a good game playing ont he 2nd pairing and adding a primary assist on an Oliver Wahlstrom goal after the Islanders prospect scored off the rebound of a Jones shot from the blue line. The goal put USA White up 2-1 early in the 2nd period, but it wasn’t enough. The Finns scored twice in the next 12 minutes to take a 3-2 lead which they defended until the end. Jones ended the game with 3 shots on goal. K’Andre Miller played on the top-pair for USA White.

USA White with Zac Jones and K’Andre Miller will take on Sweden with Karl Henriksson and Olof Lindbom, but without the injured Nils Lundkvist today at 4 PM Eastern. The game is broadcast on HockeyTV
