According to head coach Gerard Gallant, he expects Vincent Trocheck to play against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

“Trainer said he’s fine,” Gallant told the assembled media in Ottawa. “Nobody’s told me (he won’t play tonight). He was out there skating, so he should be fine. I’m hoping.”

The New York Rangers are calling him a game time decision.

Trocheck, 29, has 15 points in 23 games for the New York Rangers this season after signing a 7 year contract with an AAV of $5.625 million and a full no move clause until 2025-26.

He only has 6 points in his last 14 games (4G -2A) with a -5 rating.

In the Rangers game versus the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, he left the contest for some time after a collision with Warren Foegele. He was able to get through that match but seems to be playing through some pain.

On Tuesday, he was given a maintenance day and left practice today as well causing some concern.

If Trocheck plays, he should center Alexis Lafreniere and Vitali Kravtsov.

The first goalie off today was Jaroslav Halak, which usually indicates who will start.

Halak, 37, is 0-5-1 this season looking for his first win. Against the Senators, he’s 8-7-2 with a GAA of 2.44 and a .922 save percentage.

Gerard Gallant would not confirm the lineup or the starting goalie.

“I’m not telling you my lineup,” he laughed. “Changing my strategy tonight.”
