When will Henrik Lundqvist break his silence about his future

On August 5th, the Blueshirts were eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes. For the last 15 seasons, Henrik Lundqvist has been one of the first New York Rangers to send a message of thanks to the Blueshirt Faithful. Since that time, many of Hank’s teammates have posted to their social media accounts doing so, but still nothing from The King.

Henrik Lundqvist still hasn’t spoken since the season ended

Soon after the season ended, John Davidson told reporters that the Rangers will not carry three goalies. Nothing very shocking there, save for the fact he made it a point to say he spoke with Lundqvist about it.

“I had a good chat with him when we got off the plane from Toronto. It was a discussion we had, we’ll continue the dialogue,” JD said. ”His representative, Donnie Meehan is a good man. We will talk and see where we go. We made it clear that we aren’t carrying three goalies next year.”

This has led to a silence fans are not used to from Lundqvist, who has been one of the leading voices of the Rangers and the face of the franchise. However, the truth is that this would be the second season in a row where Hank hasn’t.

The last time Lundqvist sent out a season ending message

Henrik Lundqvist had a lot to say at the conclusion of the 2018 season. “Disappointing 2nd half of the season. Came up short and it will hurt for a while,” Hank started in a series of tweets. “We all have different opinions on how, why and what if,” he continued. “Important thing right now, where do we go from here. Step by step we WILL get closer to where we need to be. I believe it, I hope you do too.”

The next season saw a reduction in playing time and the trading of Hank’s closest friend, Mats Zuccarello. When it was all over and the Rangers missed the playoffs again, Hank said nothing except he was excited to play for Sweden in the World Championships.

“I don’t know if I’ll stay with the Rangers my entire career. I have two years left on my deal and it has always been my goal to stay with the Rangers, but once you get up there in age you never know. I know what I want, but if the club has other ideas I know I’ll have to listen. You can’t just do your own thing. Sometimes the dream might not work out in the end … we’ll see what happens.”

Henrik Lundqvist rumors

This has to be the most difficult time in Henrik Lundqvist’s illustrious career. The man has done everything except win the Stanley Cup. He also didn’t bail on the Rangers when the letter went out and demand to be traded. As soon as Hank hangs up his skates his #30 should be raised to the rafters at MSG.

However, when we talk about Lundqvist now, we talk rumors of buyouts, trades and retirement. As you know, I’ve written about them extensively here and the distinct possibility that due to covid-19 he may retire to play this season with his twin brother, Joel in the SHL for Frolunda.

If you don’t think that is possible, you maybe don’t follow Henrik close enough.

So when will Lundqvist break his silence? Good question, and one that I reached out to Hank’s agent to find out earlier today. As of this writing, I haven’t received a reply and if I am being honest, I don’t expect one. However, if I do get one a follow up to this story will come quickly.
