After Taylor Hall trade what is Chris Kreider worth now

Taylor Hall is now a member of the Arizona Coyotes. And while the Devils retain 50% of his salary, the return for a former 90 point scorer and Hart Trophy winner is paltry to say the least. In fairness to NJ, what did you expect for a disgruntled rental who is sure to become a UFA this summer.

How does Hall effect Kreider

Aside from the fact that they are both wingers, the truth is that Kreider isn’t on Hall’s level. Matter of fact, if Kreider were to be traded today, I’m not sure he would fetch a 1st round pick. Just look at what Hall got back, a handful of mid-tier prospects and a 1st round pick which will likely be in the 20’s. And the reason NJ just got so much is because this is a long term rental and not just a deadline acquisition for the playoffs.

The Rangers best bet to land a 1st round pick for Kreider would be a trade at the deadline. That’s where teams know where they are in the standings, may have an injury to address, and are beefing up for a long playoff run. Just don’t expect a return anywhere close to say, Rick Nash when the Rangers dealt him to Boston.

In the Nash trade the Rangers received a 1st round pick, Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, Ryan Lindgren and a 7th. Nash is a potential HOF player who scored 40 goals multiple times, while Kreider has yet to sniff 30 in a season. CK20 is likely to get a better return than say, Mats Zuccarello who turned out to be only 2 conditional picks. With that said, and at his current scoring pace don’t expect a huge package.

Prediction: Kreider will fetch a late first rounder from a contender and a prospect.
