Breaking: David Quinn to start Tony DeAngelo on left side with Jacob Trouba, indicates what line Alexis Lafreniere will start on

David Quinn is conducting his media availability session and has given two big lineup notes to chew on.

Tony DeAngelo to start on first pair with Jacob Trouba

  • Tony DeAngelo/Jacob Trouba
  • Ryan Lindgren/Adam Fox
  • TBD/TBD

The New York Rangers mentioned that moving Tony DeAngelo to the left side was an option and it appears that’s where it will start in camp. Now that we know the top two pairs, where does that leave the battle for the third unit.

Currently fighting for the left position are veterans Jack Johnson and Brendan Smith. Also young prospects K’Andre Miller, Libor Hajek, and Tarmo Reunanen. It should be noted that Brendan Smith has played the right side before and could do so again.

So one question answered gives life to two new ones.

Alexis Lafreniere will play on the third line

As I expected, 19 year-old phenom and the Rangers 1st overall pick since 1965 will start on the third line. Alexis Lafreniere will play left wing with Filip Chytil as his center and Julien Gauthier on the opposite flank.

Brett Howden will be a placeholder on the first line until Mika Zibanejad comes back. Kaapo Kakko will also be moved up to the second line with Strome and Panarin.

David Quinn did add that Lafreniere is not cemented onto the third line and it could change.
