Breaking: Lias Andersson done with New York Rangers, turns down camp invite

Larry Brooks is breaking news that Lias Andersson was offered to come back and participate in the Rangers Phase 3 training camp which begins on July 10th. The disgruntled former first round pick declined the offer and will remain in Sweden until he is traded.

Lias Andersson turns down the Rangers

There is no need to rehash all the drama that surrounded Lias Andersson and the Rangers this season. Anyone who reads this site is well versed on the entire sequence of events that had Andersson possibly being added to the expanded post season roster. Now we learn that the conversation took place and he declined the invitation to remain in Sweden.

Lias Andersson rumors

Earlier this today, I had received word that Andersson did indeed decline an invitation. This prompted me to reach out to Andersson’s agent Jarrett Bousquet to confirm. I received no response but Larry Brooks did (he’s a Hall of Fame writer for a reason).

Now we wait and see on the trading game this offseason. As I’ve noted already, the Rangers and Oilers could revisit a deal flipping Andersson for Jesse Puljujarvi. Now here’s another name to keep an eye on, Casey Mittlestadt in Buffalo. Apparently, on the heels of the Buffalo purge which saw them fire their director of scouting and half their staff, the Sabres will be looking for some changes and Mittlestadt could be on the move in the right deal.

Update: Lias Andersson and Rangers not done?

Per Larry Brooks, it sounds like the Rangers and Andersson are not exactly through yet.

“We had a number of good conversations. He told me he wants to be a New York Ranger. We’ll continue to hold his rights and down the road we’ll have discussions about where it’s best for Lias to play next season.”
