Multiple reports on Thursday noted a new locker was put in place in the New York Rangers dressing room for Filip Chytil. His practice equipment was hanging up for the first time since it was announced that he would miss the remainder of the season from an upper-body injury on January 28.

After suffering another suspected concussion in a collision with Carolina Hurricanes Jesper Fast on November 2, no timetable was set for his return. Chytil even went back home to Czechia to rehab and was slowly making his way back to the team. Sadly, he suffered a setback at practice that ended his season. The news was devastating for both Chytil and his teammates.

“We were all shocked,” Vincent Trocheck said at the All Star Game. “It was awesome to see him back and exciting to see him back on the ice. Whatever happened, happened. You lose him for the year on the ice but we’re more concerned about his health. That’s the most important thing.”

Chytil, is committed to making a return, posting on social media that he would be back soon after learning his fate.

“It has been the hardest 3 months of my life and has not been easy for my family, closest people and of course for whole NY Rangers organization,” Chytil wrote. “But we gotta stay positive even in these tough moments and just think What is ahead of us! Thanks to you all for nice messages! I’ll come back stronger than ever!”

Speculation on a return is undoubtedly going to take place with this news. Although, the most likely scenario is that Chytil will begin working with the Rangers’ staff, and might even take part in some light skates with the team. Having his gear in the locker room also sends the young forward a message that despite his injury, he is still very much a part of this close-knit group.

The possibility that Chytil has made excellent progress in his recovery and could rejoin the team if they get deep in the playoffs would be a dream scenario.

Regardless, having Chytil back in New York is great, and should bring a boost of morale to the Rangers’ locker room.
