According to multiple reports, the New York Rangers have placed Adam Fox on LTIR (Long-term Injured Reserve).

The Blueshirts star defenseman was injured in Thursday’s night win, on an unpenalized interference play by Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho. Fox played another shift before leaving late in the first period with a lower-body injury. Initial estimates indicate he will miss 2-4 weeks.

Fox, 25, has registered 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points in 10 games this season. If he is out for any length of time, Zac Jones will get the nod on the third pair with Braden Schneider. This will probably thrust Erik Gustafsson into a top-4 role with Ryan Lindgren, but on the right side.

In addition to Adam Fox being out, forward Barclay Goodrow will not play on Saturday in Minnesota for the birth of his son. Which explains the previous call up of Jonny Brodzinski. Filip Chytil, who suffered an upper-body injury yesterday will go on IR.

Also, per NY Post’s Mollie Walker, Igor Shesterkin is banged up from a few run-ins with the Hurricanes in his crease. In turn, the Rangers have called up veteran goalie Louis Domingue from the Wolf Pack.

With Fox going on LTIR, the Rangers get his full $9.5 million in cap relief allowing for these call ups, which included defenseman Connor Mackey.

Per CapFriendly:

If a player is considered to have a long-term injury (causing them to miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days), they can be placed on the Long-Term Injury Reserve (LTIR), which can be used to receive cap relief.
