Rangers Roundup: Mika Zibanejad gets day off after huge block, Ryan Lindgren, and more
Mika Zibanejad was given a maintenance day per the New York Rangers after taking a huge slap shot off the ankle in the team’s 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night.
“I was sick,” Gerard Gallant admitted after the game. “I was happier than the fans when he came out of the runway for the third period.”
Mika Zibanejad and Ryan Lindgren
The sight of seeing Zibanejad unable to put any weight on his right foot sent shivers down the spines of everyone associated with the Rangers, but according to the coach, he’ll be fine for tomorrow’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Zibanejad, 29, is second on the team in scoring with 31 goals (1 shorthanded) and 64 points in 60 games. He’s third among Rangers forwards in blocked shots with 33 and also has 51 hits.
Today’s practice was light as Barclay Goodrow was also given a maintenance day. Defenseman Braden Schneider can’t practice with the team since he’s been assigned to the AHL for cap accrual purposes. Plus Ryan Lindgren remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Lindgren was injured on a questionable hit by T.J. Oshie in Saturday’s 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals during the first period. The 25 year-old has 17 points in 56 games this season and is currently questionable to play tomorrow.
Meanwhile, we still await a hearing for K’Andre Miller after his match penalty from Sunday for spitting. The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that one was taking place but there’s no definitive date. There’s no specific schedule because it’s based on the availability of the player, agent and NHLPA, as well as Player Safety.
