Rangers Roundup: Patrick Kane, plus latest news and notes
The calendar has finally hit September and the New York Rangers will be playing their first exhibition game on the 24th of this month against the Boston Bruins.
In addition, the Rangers will partake in the Rookie Series against the Philadelphia Flyers on September 15th and 16th. So hockey action is just mere weeks away.
Now, let’s check in on the latest news and notes surrounding the Blueshirts.
Patrick Kane
The lights on Broadway shined very briefly on the player nicknamed “Showtime” last season.
Kane, 34, recorded 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in his brief 19 game stint with the Rangers after the trade deadline. He added another 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 7 postseason contests but was obviously hampered by a nagging injury that required hip surgery.
Initially it was believed the unrestricted free agent would be out until January to recover, but Kane appears to be ahead of schedule.
“I think we’re at the point now where, I mean, could I come back early? Yeah, probably,” Kane said. “But does it make sense? You know, it might be better to take the full time and just make sure I’m at 105-110% instead of just 90-95. But it’s a lot better than I was last year.”

So where will Kane land when he’s ready to sign his next deal and will he be open to a one-year contract with a contender?
David Pagnotta mentioned on NHL Network that interested teams are the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders, and more.
Of course, the Rangers can’t be ruled out thanks in large part to Kane’s desire to play in New York, which was evident with him only waiving his no-trade clause just for them.
Depending on the timing of when he is ready to sign and what the cap situation, a Rangers’ return must be considered a real possibility.
