Rangers prospect Morgan Barron should sign ELC soon

Morgan Barron was in the process of making a decision between signing with the Rangers or returning to Cornell when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In recent days we have learned that Ivy League schools have cancelled their sports programs.

Easy decision for Morgan Barron

“I know a lot of schools are making contingency plans for if there’s not a fall semester,” Barron said. “What is that going to mean for college sports? I don’t have the answer to that. There’s definitely this weird fog covering both sides, pretty much making it impossible to make a decision right now.”

The Ivy Leagues’ cancellation should make Barron’s decision easy, even though there are still questions as to when the AHL will resume play. Currently, the new CBA states that the NHL is expected to start the 2020-21 season on December 1st. They intend to do so with fans in the stands at the moment.

The AHL which relies almost exclusively on ticket and concessions revenue, should follow suit with the NHL. That means Barron could be competing for a spot when the 2020-2021 training camps open in November. If he doesn’t make the team, he could playing hockey in Hartford come December.

Rangers have an offer on the table to Barron

The Rangers have had an offer to the Hobey Baker Finalist since May. Morgan Barron was waiting to gather more information before he mad any decision and now he has it. He can begin his pro journey with the Wolf Pack by signing his ELC starting next season. The time has come, expect an announcement soon.
