Rangers Roundup: Brennan Othmann keeps scoring, Olaf Lindbom signs, and more
New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann can help his Flint Firebirds advance to the third round of the OHL playoffs with a win over the Soo Greyhounds in Game 5.
Thanks to his OT goal in Game 4, the Firebirds took a 3-1 series lead.
Brennan Othmann leading Firebirds
Othmann, 19, was selected by the New York Rangers in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
The captain of the Flint Firebirds registered 50 goals and 97 points in 66 games, scoring 4 goals in his last game to hit the 50 goal milestone.
He’s now carrying over his tremendous regular season to the playoffs where he helped lead the Firebirds into the second round. With 8 goals and 14 points in 11 games, Othmann is leading all Flint players in playoff scoring.
The talented prospect signed his entry level contract with the New York Rangers in August.
The expectation is for him to make the jump to pro hockey and play for the Hartford Wolf Pack next season. He should automatically be given a starring role as a top line player getting minutes in all situations in the AHL.
Clarification Note: Brennan Othmann can join the Pack next season only after the OHL season ends. He is fully AHL eligible in 2023-24.
