Rangers Roundup: Gorton may push Girardi and Staal out, Yandle update and more

It feels like the Rangers are on the lips of every Hockey Insider’s radio or T.V. appearance lately. Rick Nash‘s name is featured prominently, but with the latest insight from Bob McKenzie that the Blueshirts are “wide open for business”, others believe that this could spell the end of Dan Girardi and/or Marc Staal.

Wide Open Means What Exactly?

The latest from Spector’s Hockey believes, “Doesn’t sound like Rangers management wants to blow up the roster but they certainly seem keen to shake things up.” He concluded with, “Lundqvist isn’t available and I doubt they’ll part with McDonagh. But I think they’ll certainly try to move Dan Girardi and/or Marc Staal, and I don’t rule out shopping Nash…”

This aligns with the comments that head coach, Alain Vigneault recently made that the Rangers are looking for “new blood”. In that interview, he also suggested that Dan Girardi could be finished in NY. If so, this refutes Larry Brooks report that the Rangers will not ask Girardi to waive his no move clause. As for a buyout, it makes no financial sense.

Keep your eyes on Eric Staal and where he may end up. Maybe all three Staal brothers in Carolina is an inevitability?

Yandle Update

Our own Ryan Graham reached out Keith Yandle‘s agent to see if he could get any information on his situation. While it is widely believed that Yandle would love to return, it may not be in the cards.

“At this point, nothing to report either way,” he told us. The Rangers would certainly like to keep Yandle, and they would like a little hometown discount. However, where they currently stand with both Girardi and Staal’s contracts it would be almost impossible to re-sign him. Unless of course what was mentioned above happens.
