Rangers Roundup: Starting next season in December and Lias Andersson back with team?
The NHL is possibly looking at a December start for next season, while Larry Brooks speculates Lias Andersson could be back with the Rangers soon. Let’s get to it.
NHL DECEMBER START
On the latest Insider Trading, Darren Dreger reported that the NHL is going to extend the quarantine into mid May. This coincides with rumors that players may be called back on May 15th.
Pierre LeBrun reported that the NHL season may start in December because they need to ensure that fans can be in attendance. Of course, there is no certainty of when they can start and finish this season.
Finally, Bob McKenzie pretty much put the idea of a June draft to bed, but official word will come next week.
Lias Andersson back?
Larry Brooks is speculating the Rangers may be adding Lias Andersson to a potential 30 man roster should the season resume. Recently, Lias spoke with Johan Rylander about leaving the Rangers and possibly coming back.
Lias Andersson finally got back to playing hockey in the SHL and is open for anything, including an NHL return. He told GP about what’s next, “ I have no idea what’s going on. No [expletive] idea whatsoever. I just practice – and see what happens. I’m open to anything.” He has one more year on his deal with the Rangers who will still hold his rights after the ELC expires. Andersson could play for HV71 next season, but it is doubtful he would come back to the Rangers affiliate in Hartford. Either way, the more he plays the more his value increases for the trade he demanded this season.
Although it is possible, the Rangers are more likely to reward players from the AHL like Vinni Lettieri and Steven Fogarty before Andersson.
