The New York Rangers announced a few moves on Tuesday morning with more anticipated later today and tomorrow.

Per the team, forwards Jonny Brodzinski and Adam Edstrom have been called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack. Meanwhile, defenseman Connor Mackey has been sent back down to the AHL affiliate.

With Filip Chytil still out due to an upper-body injury, and Kaapo Kakko expected to be put on LTIR after falling awkwardly on his left leg in Monday’s loss to the Sabres, calling up two forwards makes sense.

Additionally, sending down Mackey is a good indication that Adam Fox is set to return off LTIR when eligible tomorrow.

Fox, 25, has registered 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points in 10 games this season. His return will drop Erik Gustafsson back to the third pair with Braden Schneider. While Fox was out, the 31 year-old veteran held down the fort, scoring 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) in 10 games.

The Rangers will practice at 12:00 p.m. ET with injury updates expected.

Brodzinski, 30, is Hartford’s leading scorer with 11 goals and 14 assists in 16 games. He’s no stranger to the Rangers and has usually been the first forward called up in the event of an injury.

The call-up of 2019 sixth-round selection Adam Edstrom is a bit of a surprise.

This season, the 23 year-old has registered 7 goals and 2 helpers in 18 matches. The native of Karlstad Sweden is a big boy, tipping the scales at a hulking 6’7″ and 234 lbs. More importantly, he plays to his size and utilizes it to his advantage to punish opposing defensemen and to create room for himself on the ice.

Another great thing about Edstrom is he’s versatile and can play all three forward positions.

“I feel comfortable playing both wing and center, all I can see is an upside to my game,” Edstrom said prior to coming over from Sweden. “I learned how to play both positions and feel like I can use that to my advantage in different situations on the ice”.
