Highlights from New York Rangers camp day one, team unlikely to name a captain, and David Quinn on Alexis Lafreniere
Day one of training camp is in the books with a focus on off-ice workouts. Of course, some of the biggest information was revealed in Head Coach David Quinn’s presser.
Those included Tony DeAngelo moving to the left side, Alexis Lafreniere on the third line, and a captain update.
New York Rangers unlikely to name a captain
When asked about naming a captain, Quinn said that it is an “organizational decision” and they have candidates. “Right now we are going to sit where we are at and at the right time name a captain.”
David Quinn on Alexis Lafreniere
Coach Quinn received a few questions with regard to Alexis Lafreniere. Unfortunately, he made a little joke about not knowing seeing much of Lafreniere play but that they had lunch and he has “good manners and order food properly.”
Quinn laid out expectations for Lafreniere and expects him to work hard and earn everything. He noted that Lafreniere will start on the third line with Filip Chytil and Julian Gauthier but nothing is set in stone.
Day One Highlights
The Rangers released several clips throughout the day of day one camp highlights. Here’s a montage.
