Henrik Lundqvist back in New York soon, will a decision be coming next?
Larry Brooks has spoken to Henrik Lundqvist via email and he’s coming back to New York. “We’re coming back to NYC to start the school year there,” Hank told Brooks. “Then we’ll go from there.”
This should now put to bed any speculation that Lundqvist would play in Frolunda with his twin, Joel this season. The big question is now that Hank is back, will the two sides finalize a path forward soon?
Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers moving forward
In order for the Rangers to really move forward, the Henrik Lundqvist situation needs to be resolved. What we know in published reports and interviews with John Davidson is that Hank was informed the team will not carry three goalies next season.
Before today, both sides had been on radio silence, especially Henrik who has not posted on social media even before that meeting. I had a brief email exchange with Lundqvist’s agent and asked if there was any status update. In particular, I wanted to know who’s court the proverbial ball was in. “Any decision making by either side is simply between the parties,” Don Meehan told me.
So here we are and Lundqvist will be in town soon. A safe assumption would be both sides getting to gather and deciding the plan. Will it be a buyout as I believe, or a trade? Retirement is still on the table but is the least likely scenario now.
