New York Rangers NCAA prospect report: Gabe Perreault has third 3-point game this season

Eight New York Rangers prospects were in NCAA action this past weekend with the marquee matchup featuring Gabe Perreault and Drew Forstescue leading top-ranked Boston College against Boston University in the Battle of Commonwealth Avenue.
BC rallied from being down 2-1 after the first period on Friday night to earn a 6-2 win and first place in the Hockey East standings. Perreault, the Rangers first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft, had three assist for Boston College, his first three-point game of the season.
2023 first-round pick Gabe Perreault had his third three-point performance of the season, earning two primary and one secondary assist for the game. The sophomore forward set up Teddy Stiga for the game-tying goal at 5:30 in the second period at even strength for his first point of the night.
Perreault earned the secondary assist on the eventual game winning goal at 13:03 with the teams skating 4 on 4. His third assist was on Ryan Leonard’s empty-net goal at 19:35 of the third period, Leonard’s third goal, and Boston College’s sixth goal of the game.
Though Perreault did not record a shot on goal, he had a plus-3 rating. Fortescue, New York’s third-round selection in 2023, had one shot on goal, two blocked shots, and was plus-4. The defenseman picked up his seventh assist of the season on Saturday when Leonard scored another empty-net goal in a 2-0 BC win. Fortescue had one shot on goal and one blocked shot in that one, and was plus-1.
Perreault was held without a point Saturday and assessed a minor penalty for hooking. He leads BC in scoring with 31 points in 23 games and leads Hockey East with 16 assists in 15 conference games. Boston College is first in both the USCHO.com Men’s Division I Poll and PairWise Rankings with an overall record of 18-4-1. The Eagles have a home matchup against UMass Lowell on Friday before opening the Beanpot Tournament against Northeastern Monday night at TD Garden.

Rangers pick Noah Laba scores twice for Colorado College

The Western Michigan Broncos are at the top of the NCHC standings after sweeping Miami (OH) 8-3 on Friday and 2-0 Saturday. Freshman Ty Henricks continues to skate at left wing on the fourth line. A sixth-round selection in 2023, Henricks had two shots on goal Friday with one blocked shot. Saturday, he was credited with one shot on goal and one blocked shot. While his stat line of two goals, three assists, and five points in 22 games appears meager on the surface, Henricks has been accumulating valuable experience playing on a top-10 ranked team, and is poised for a breakout next season once elevated to a larger role in the lineup.
Western Michigan is third in the USCHO Poll and sixth in the PairWise Rankings with a 17-4-1 overall record. They have an upcoming series against Noah Laba and the Colorado College Tigers.
As for Laba and Colorado College, they came away with a split against Arizona State. Laba had a secondary assist on the Tigers’ only goal in a 4-1 loss Friday. Laba had four shots on goal and a face-off record of 8-4.
On Saturday, Laba lit the lamp twice for Colorado College, scoring his first goal of the game just 19 seconds into the third period by going on the attack and taking the puck himself towards to the net.
Laba’s second goal came after winning a center ice face-off. His teammates carried the puck into the offensive zone and found Laba in the high slot, where he fired a one-timer for the goal. He finished the game with three shots on goal, a plus-2 rating, and a 13-5 face-off record. The junior now has a total of seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 19 games this season.
Colorado College dropped out of the USCHO Poll, and is currently outside of the NCAA Tournament field, 31st in PairWise rankings with a 12-11-1 overall record.
Minnesota forward Brody Lamb is in the midst of a scoring slump, as he has now gone seven games without a point. He did not record a shot on goal Friday, and was minus-1 with three blocked shots when Minnesota fell to Michigan State 9-3. The two teams skated to a 3-3 overtime tie on Saturday; Lamb did not record a shot on goal, but was credited with one block.
Minnesota is fourth in the USCHO Poll and third in the PairWise standings with a 19-6-3 overall record. The Golden Gophers host the Wisconsin Badgers this weekend in Big Ten conference play.
Defenseman Hank Kempf had one blocked shot for the Cornell Big Red on Friday when they defeated Zakary Karpa and the Harvard Crimson by a score of 4-1. Karpa won the only two face-offs he took before leaving the game due to injury. The senior captain did not play on Saturday when the Crimson skated to a 4-1 win over Colgate. Harvard has a 7-10-2 overall record and hosts Princeton on Friday before opening the Beanpot against Boston University on Monday.
Cornell lost 6-1 to Dartmouth on Saturday. Kempf had two blocked shots and took a minor penalty for interference. The Big Red fell to 8-6-5 overall and will be on the road this weekend against St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University in ECAC play.
Swedish defenseman Rasmus Larsson recorded one shot on goal and one blocked shot in a 3-2 loss for the Northern Michigan Wildcats against Michigan Tech in CCHA play. The freshman was minus-1 with a minor penalty for cross-checking during a 4-0 loss Saturday. Northern Michigan will look to improve on a 4-21-1 overall record in their upcoming series versus Bowling Green.
