Rangers Roundup: Taxi Squad moves, Lundqvist preps for jersey retirement, Blueshirts pick Super Bowl winner, and more
The New York Rangers announced a few taxi squad moves earlier in the day.
Back up are forward Anthony Greco and defenseman Tarmo Reunanen. Tyler Wall has been reassigned to the Wolf Pack.
Greco is a Queens, NY native and made his Rangers debut on January 13th, 2022, against the San Jose Sharks. It was his second career NHL appearance. He has 24 points in 27 games with the Wolf Pack.
Reunanen, was selected by the Blueshirts in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. This season with the Wolf Pack, he’s registered 13 points in 22 games.
Henrik Lundqvist preps for his jersey retirement
Lundqvist ended his NHL career with a record of 459-310-96, a .916 SV% and a GAA of 2.43 with 64 shutouts. Simply remarkable numbers. Lundqvist will forever be remembered for carrying the team on numerous occasions, in particular the 2014 Stanley Cup run that fell short.
Although he signed a one year-deal with the Washington Capitals after the Rangers bought him out in 2020, a heart condition prevented him from playing with any other NHL team.
Lundqvist spoke briefly about his big night on MSG’s broadcast on Friday and noted that he has lots of family and friends coming in for the ceremony. He also said that he went to see the suite where his family would be watching from and felt emotional.
He admitted to John Giannone and Steve Valiquette that he may cry that night. Giannone basically looked at Hank and said, “You’re definitely crying.”
Rangers make their Super Bowl Picks
Ryan Reaves was given the microphone and tasked with finding out who his teammates think will win the Super Bowl.
Adam Fox is going with the Packers. Mika Zibanejad is picking the Bengals, but Chris Kreider gave no answer as Reaves tried to hunt him down. It’s pretty hysterical and worth a watch. Enjoy.
