Rangers sign towering forward prospect Nathan Aspinall to entry-level deal
Add another towering forward to the growing — literally and figuratively — group the New York Rangers have under contract. The latest is Nathan Aspinall, a 6-foot-7 left wing, who agreed to terms with the Rangers on a three-year, entry-level deal Thursday.
The Rangers selected Aspinall in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft (No. 159 overall). He’s currently the captain for Flint of the OHL, where the 19-year-old leads the Firebirds with six goals and 10 points in six games.
Aspinall has a six-game point streak to begin this season, and already has three multi-point outings and a pair of two-goal games.
In 62 games last season, Aspinall scored 17 goals and was fourth on Flint with 47 points. He scored scored 18 goals for them in 2023-24, his draft year.
Aspinall took part in Rangers training camp this fall and gained some attention for dropping the gloves with Nathan Legare in New York’s preseason opener against the New Jersey Devils.
He also appeared in five games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers affiliate in the American Hockey League, after signing an amateur tryout last spring. He played five games and didn’t record a point nor any penalty minutes.

Aspinall skated on a line with Matt Rempe, the Rangers’ 6-foot-9 giant, in the preseason opener. Rempe, of course, is a fourth-line regular now with the Rangers, joined by 6-foot-7 Adam Edstrom flanking veteran center Sam Carrick. The Rangers also deploy a pair of 6-foot-4 defensemen in Carson Soucy and Matthew Robertson.
Dylan Roobroeck, a 6-foot-7 center who scored 20 goals in the minors last season, is currently playing for Hartford. The Rangers selected two large defensemen in the 2025 draft. Sean Barnhill stands 6-foot-6, and Evan Passmore is 6-foot-5.
Even New York’s goalie prospects are tall. Hartford backup Talyn Boyko is 6-foot-7, and Hugo Ollas, currently playing in the ECHL, is 6-foot-6.
Aspinall should fit right in.
Right now, he’ll finish out this season in juniors before moving on to Hartford in the spring, should all go well.
