Rangers’ new threads pay tribute to century of hockey history
The New York Rangers unveiled some serious new threads Thursday to commemorate their 100th season in the NHL.
The centennial jersey reveal was teased by the Rangers the day before with a video featured in Times Square and on the team’s social media accounts.
The building anticipation popped when a hype video, narrated by Rangers legend Mark Messier, posted on social media Thursday morning. Early returns from the Blueshirts Faithful and other segments of the hockey community are extremely positive.
The sweater is a baby blue version of the 2018 Winter Classic jersey, an ode to the original uniform the team wore when it joined the NHL in 1926. A 100th anniversary patch is featured on the right shoulder to commemorate the Rangers’ centennial season.
The Rangers will wear their new threads 10 times this season. That includes the eight centennial theme nights at Madison Square Garden, as well as opening night against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 7 and on Fan Appreciation Night against the Buffalo Sabres on April 8.

Rangers centennial jersey is a nod to their historic past
According to a post featuring the design’s details, the jersey color is based on the 1926 shield logo, from their inaugural season. The deep red and rich cream colors reflect the “passage of time.”
The consistent piping design on the sweater remains essentially unchanged, with the release recognizing it as a “mainstay feature”.
One of the best accents to this homage is the inside collar, which boasts the 1926 “Garden Marquee” design with red text commemorating the date of the Rangers’ first-ever game. It reads, “Opening Night – Nov. 16, 1926”.
The uniform lettering is inspired by the original single-color font from the 1926 model.
Previous third jerseys highlighted the Rangers’ rich history, but not quite like this stellar design.
The Rangers’ 2018 Winter Classic uniform had similar features to this one. Still, it wasn’t a complete throwback, since the piping had white features, an “N.Y” logo on the chest plate, and the uniform itself was a dark navy blue.
The 2012 Winter Classic jerseys were a “faux-back” style uniform, with the original 1926 shield inspiring the logo featured on the front.
In 2021, as part of Adidas’ “Reverse Retro” series, the Rangers created a navy blue Lady Liberty design that was similar but not identical to the original design (1996-2007), and then released a replica for the 2022-23 season. The jersey design replaced navy with royal blue.
Mark Messier front and center for Rangers’ centennial celebration

Messier recently teamed up with the Rangers to have his company, “Game7,” featured as the club’s first-ever uniform advertiser.
Earlier this week, the Rangers announced the partnership, which includes Game 7 patches on the shoulders for each Rangers sweater this season, including the centennial jersey.
“For me, the Rangers will always be family, and Madison Square Garden will always feel like home,” Messier said. “To now see GAME7 — something we built with the same passion and commitment to greatness that defined my years on the ice — become part of the Rangers’ journey is incredibly meaningful. This partnership unites a legendary franchise, the world’s most iconic arena and a brand created to inspire people to rise to their greatest challenges.”
The Rangers have had Benjamin Moore advertisements on their helmets since 2023-24, but never placed an ad on their sweaters.
Following the 2022-23 NHL season, most NHL teams incorporated ads on their helmets and sweaters. Now, the only team without company representation woven onto their jerseys is the Utah Mammoth.
