OFFICIAL: Andersson to Hartford, Gettinger to New York

NHL

Moments ago, the Rangers announced that the team has assigned forward Lias Andersson to the Hartford Wolf Pack. In addition, the Rangers have recalled forward Tim Gettinger to the Rangers.

As has been mentioned numerous times, Andersson has been getting very limited minutes for most of this season while with the Blueshirts. Andersson played a measly 3:55 in last night’s loss to the Panthers and has averaged just 9:33 in TOI during the 2019-20 campaign. Andersson has been tasked by David Quinn to do more to warrant increased ice time, but when you only play a handful of minutes a night on the fourth line, it can be hard to do so. Now, Andersson will head back to Hartford, where he spent most of last season, as he tries to improve his game and grow as a player.

As for Tim Gettinger, the 2016 fifth-round pick was with the Blueshirts for four games last season, though he didn’t register a point. The big winger, who is listed at 6’6, has had a solid start to his season with the Wolf Pack, registering six points (4G, 2A) in 17 games. Calling up a winger from Hartford likely means that Mika Zibanejad will be back in the lineup on Wednesday night, which will move Ryan Strome, Filip Chytil, and Brett Howden down in the rotation.
