Rangers among many suitors as Trouba Trade watch heats up

Zuccarello and Trouba collide.

The Winnipeg Jets are doing their due diligence when it comes to Jacob Trouba and they would love to have a trade done before the draft next week. If you read our post this morning on Erik Karlsson likely signing with SJ, you would have seen we noted Trouba as plan A for the Rangers this offseason.

Today, the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers consummated the first trade of the offseason when Matt Niskanen was sent to Phiily for Radko Gudas. It certainly is an interesting deal because the Flyers were one of the top rumored teams in trying to trade for Trouba. I’m not sure this takes them out of the running, but they may have heard the demands and balked.

Other teams heavily involved in talks for the 25 year old top pair defenseman are the Red Wings, Sabres, and Panthers but they are likely NOT the only ones to have reached out or going to do so. The deal is, are they willing to give up that coveted 1st rounder and a roster player to acquire him.

As for the Rangers, they have been mentioned by many insiders already. Bob McKenzie emphasized the Blueshirts as soon as rumors began that Winnipeg was going to make the push to trade him this summer. It would not surprise me if over the next 24-72 hours we hear their names come up more frequently as the Trouba Trade watch heats up.
