Rangers and Trouba agree to a huge deal, what happens next

Trouba (Winnipeg Sun)

The New York Rangers and Jacob Trouba have come to terms as we’ve anticipated, well before the July 25th arbitration date.

Terms Released

The terms of the deal as per Cap Friendly are 7 years at $8M per season.

All Smiles

The agency that helped the two sides brokered the deal sent out their congratulations to Jacob and his fiancée.

What’s Next?

This settlement means the Rangers have 48 hours to buyout Brendan Smith and save a little over $3M in cap space. The Rangers could try and trade Smith to a team with another player on a bad contract for the purpose of buying said player out and having less of a cap penalty next season. So long as that player only has one year remaining on their deal.
