The moment the buzzer sounded in Game 7 as the New Jersey Devils triumphed over the Blueshirts, changes were coming. No one was shocked that head coach Gerard Gallant and some members of his coaching staff paid the price. However, this move was a surprise.

That’s because Ramsay was absolutely loved by the players.

This was captured on an MSG Networks broadcast in a huge 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on February 26. In that contest, Mika Zibanejad blocked a shot off his ankle late in the second period that looked like it was the end of his season.

Ramsay rushed to Mika’s aid and helped him off the ice for the second intermission. When he came out for the third period a sigh of relief came over all of Rangerstown. The star center went on to score a goal in that final frame and afterwards hugged Ramsay for helping him get back into the game.

Another player that spent a short time in New York is Patrick Kane, who admitted after the season that he wasn’t 100%, but went out of his way to commend the 58 year-old trainer for getting him ready to play.

“I commend Jim Ramsay and the staff on getting me as ready as possible for the playoffs,” Kane stated.

At this time there’s no reason as to why he was let go, and there’s unlikely to be any.

One person familiar with the situation felt it was certainly unexpected.
