New York Rangers 2023 first-round pick Gabe Perreault paced the United States to Gold on Friday at the 2024 World Junior Championship by notching 3 points to lead them in scoring. The 18 year-old forward opened the scoring for Team USA, and helped them pull away big in the third period with 2 assists to an eventual 6-2 win over host Sweden.

Defenseman Drew Fortescue, who was selected by the Rangers in the third-round of the 2023 draft, also joined the scoring party with an assist.

At the 3:04 mark of the first period on a delayed penalty call, Perreault tipped a point shot to give the US an early lead.

That was followed by Fortescue setting up Isaac Howard for his first of two goals midway through the second period.

The United States entered the final frame up 3-2 with Sweden coming on at the end of the second period. However, it was Perreault notching the secondary assist on a Zeev Buium blast just 1:19 in, to send the Americans off and running to victory.

This is now the sixth championship for Team USA since in 20 years (2004, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2021, 2024). Perreault finished the tournament with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in 7 games at the 2024 WJC. Meanwhile, Fortescue closes his scoring out with 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 7 games.

The New York Rangers must be excited with their selections as they continue the list of high draft picks to win Gold at the World Juniors in recent years.
