The New York Rangers need to start worrying.

After blowing a 2-1 third period lead against their Metro Division rivals, the Washington Capitals, they’ve now lost four straight (0-3-1). Over their last 18 games, they are below .500 at 8-9-1 and look like a fringe playoff team instead of a Stanley Cup contender.

“They had two chances in the third period and scored on both of them,” said a frustrated Peter Laviolette. “We’ve got to win a game tomorrow. That’s the objective.”

On Sunday, the two teams will conclude the home-and-home, and the season series. Washington holds a 2-1-0 edge as the Rangers hope to stop the bleeding and split for the year.

New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals

The Rangers losing skid is now at four straight losses and a cause for concern. Despite all the players publicly showing optimism in the face of adversity, this team is struggling to hold leads, as they blew another on Saturday. New York has scored first in the last three games, and lost every single one.

“It’s one that slipped away from us,” Adam Fox, who scored twice stated. “You’re not going to win every game. It’s a stretch and we’re obviously going through it. It’s frustrating and we’re going to have to come together to get out of it.”

New York is currently 1-3-1 to start 2024 and in desperate need of a vintage Igor Shesterkin performance to end this slide.
