The NHL Network ranked the top five moves of the offseason. Rangers selecting Alexis Lafreniere first overall was listed at number five. Alex Pietrangelo signing with Vegas was top of the list followed by Taylor Hall to Buffalo, Jacob Markstrom to Calgary, and Torey Krug to St. Louis.

“I think this kid is going to be a REALLY good player in this league,” Michael Ruff explained of his ranking. “It might take a little time, but I think what he can do and the players he has potential to play with on the New York Rangers…every year this team dials it up a little bit more and I’m expecting this addition to help them be even better then they were this past season.”

“I chose number 13 because my two favorite numbers were retired.”

That’s what Alexis Lafreniere, who has been wearing 11 said in a recent interview. We all know that Mark Messier’s number hangs up in the rafters.

“Growing up I liked Pavel Datsyuk, and he was a player I watched a lot,” Alexis explained about his choice. The Red Wings great was beloved and known as the “Magic Man”. That because Datsyuk was incredible with the puck, slick passing, and deke goals.

“I think 13 is a good looking number and I went with this number, it’s a pretty cool number,” Lafreniere concluded.
