The quest to win their first Stanley Cup championship in 30 years is underway with the New York Rangers hosting the Washington Capitals in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference First Round series.

The Rangers are the top seed in this year’s postseason by virtue of having the best regular-season record in the NHL and winning the Presidents’ Trophy. The Blueshirts, who established franchise records with 55 wins and 114 points this season, will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs, beginning with their first-round clash against the Capitals.

Washington clinched the second wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference in its 82nd and final game of the regular season.

This will be the 10th all-time postseason series played between the Rangers and Capitals. New York holds a 5-4 advantage and has won each of the past three series in seven games, most recently in 2015.
