Henrik Lundqvist was set to be honored by his old hockey club in a few weeks at a special ceremony in Sweden. Unfortunately, that celebration has been postponed.

“It is with great disappointment that Frölunda HC must announce that Henrik Lundqvist’s tribute match will not take place on 8 January due to the government’s and the Public Health Agency’s new restrictions,” the team said on their website.

“Very sad news, but I fully understand the situation we are now in. I had really looked forward to a special evening in Scandinavium, but hope that we can get a new opportunity another time,” Henrik Lundqvist said per the same press release.

“It is a pity that we did not get the opportunity to pay tribute to Henrik,” Frölunda’s chairman Mats Grauers said. “We hope to be able to do so at a later time.”

Lundqvist started his great career in Frölunda with his twin brother Joel, who is the team’s captain.

What about his jersey retirement at MSG

New York Rangers legendary goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will have his number 30 jersey raised to the iconic ceiling of Madison Square Garden on January 28th.

“There’s no place like it,” Lundqvist said after the announcement earlier in the year. “Can’t tell you enough how much I look forward to be back in the place that has meant so much to me in my life. See you at the Garden January 28th!”

With the recent NHL pause and the rash of postponements there will be widespread rescheduling of games. One begins to wonder how that will impact the Rangers schedule, if at all?

At this time, the NHL will be working with the two week break in February that was for the Olympics to reschedule all postponed games. For the Rangers that includes one game each against the Senators, Islanders, and Canadiens.
