REPORT: Rangers shopping Vesey

Elliotte Friedman’s latest 31 Thoughts article dropped today and in it he cites that the Buffalo Sabres have talked to the Rangers about Jimmy Vesey. Additionally, there are rumors that the Calgary Flames have also kicked the tires on the 26 year old forward.

The Sabres are interesting because Buffalo traded for Vesey’s rights from Nashville in 2016, but he eventually decided to sign with the Rangers. He has one year left on his deal at 2.35M before he becomes a UFA in 2020.

When the season ended, I said that Vesey and Vlad Namestnikov were likely the most expendable forwards the Rangers had this summer. It’s now confirmed that Vesey will probably on the move before the draft, and he could be a part of the Trouba deal if the two sides can consummate a trade.
