Will Igor Shesterkin’s injury keep him out for game two of Rangers versus Hurricanes?

Igor Shesterkin was supposed to start today against the Carolina Hurricanes. That all changed late Friday night, as he was deemed “unfit to play”. Now the question remains, will the future of the Rangers franchise in goal be able to go on Monday for game 2?

“The plan was to play Igor, and last night they told me I was going in,” Henrik Lundqvist said. The Rangers face of the franchise for the last 15 years also told the media via Zoom that he felt for the young goalie.

Rangers will hold practice tomorrow at 10AM

After today’s game David Quinn said, “we’re not sure that he’ll be ready to play for game 2,” in regard to Shesterkin. The Rangers will be practicing tomorrow at the Ford Center at 10AM, that will be a huge indication if he will play.

Should Shesterkin not suit up for practice, Henrik Lundqvist will be the starter for the Blueshirts on Monday night. The King stopped 34 of 37 Hurricane shots in today’s loss. He was not the issue, but the Rangers anemic power play was, as they went 0-7.

Speculation on Shesterkin’s injury

Due to the league’s new policy on not being able to report on injuries, it leaves a lot of room for speculation. It should be noted that this is NOT COVID-19 related, because he was in the stands to watch the game and not quarantined.

The injury to Shesterkin is day-to-day. He did not appear hurt during the exhibition game against the Islanders on Wednesday. So that leads one to believe something could have happened at practice on Friday.

Again, without the benefit of at least being told if it is an upper or lower body injury we’re in the dark. It basically becomes guessing, which no one likes to do with a person’s health.
