Canes likely to keep #2 pick dashing Rangers hopes of moving up

The Rangers and most of their fans were hopeful that Jeff Gorton would be able to work out a deal with Carolina to move up to the 2nd pick in the draft. Well, those chances have greatly diminished

Carolina Looking To Make Changes

The Canes new GM, Don Waddell appeared on NHL Network radio and dropped this tidbit:

[su_quote cite=”Chris Nichols” url=”https://frshockey.com/nhl/hurricanes/waddell-hurricanes-know-change-is-needed/”]“Obviously getting the No. 2 pick in the NHL draft coming up probably means we’re going to be able to put a player right on our team. If we keep the pick, which it looks like that’s the way it’s going right now – that’s exciting. [/su_quote]

While other GM’s are calling for players like Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk, the belief around the Rangers was they were trying to pry the #2 pick from Carolina. If the Canes are looking to move veterans off the current roster and go full rebuild, trading that pick makes no sense.

As of now, it looks like the Rangers will hold on to the #9 pick in the draft and go from there.
