Flash Poll: Do you want the Rangers to win the President’s Trophy?

The New York Rangers are just two points out of the top spot in the NHL. If the Rangers win the President’s Trophy it will be the third time they do so in franchise history.

The first time they won it was 1991-92 and they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round. The last time they accepted the trophy was 1993-94, you know…the year they won the Stanley Cup.

So that puts the Rangers as a franchise at 50/50 to win the Cup after they take home the Dish. Since the trophy was first awarded in 1985-86, 8 teams that won it also took home the Stanley Cup. The last team to do so was the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks.

The odds of winning the Cup the same year you take home the President’s trophy is 28.5% – which is pretty darn good. Three teams that won it, lost in the Final making it almost 40% to just get there…which is even better. Still, some fans view it as some sort of curse. Maybe that’s because 6 teams were also bounced in the first round to the the tune of 21%. So which type of person are you? Do you want it or not? Let us know.
