Hard Fact: The Rangers are more likely to fall in the lottery than move up

Tonight the NHL will announce where the teams that missed the playoffs will pick in the NHL draft in June. While this site has focused on the optimistic chances of the Rangers getting the 1st overall pick in the draft with 6%, the reality is much worse.

The Overall Odds

Here comes the pain per Tankathon

The truth is, the Rangers actually are more likely to drop from their current 8th overall pick by a combined total off 44.2%. In truth, the Rangers will likely pick 8th or worse by 81%.

Always Hope

Still, hope remains and there’s at least a 19% chance the Rangers will get into the top 3 where 3 studs await in Dahlin, Zadina, and Svechnikov.

While the focus has been on those players, should the Rangers stay or fall in the draft they can only pray that Oliver Wahlstrom is there.

The 6’1″, US born center has the potential to be a top line center in the NHL as any in the draft. Scouts have said he brings it all to the table. An offensive player who can be pure magic at times, a goal scorer, and someone who plays with an edge.

If the Rangers aren’t that lucky and are still looking for a center, Jesperi Kotkaniemi may be a choice. He has offensive skills but isn’t a surefire thing.

That leads me to believe the Rangers will look to defense and hope to land either Dobson or Hughes. Stay with us to find out.
