Henrik Lundqvist is focusing on the World Championships right now, but when asked about his future with the Rangers he expressed some doubt. According to Expressen, Lundqvist is unsure where he will be when the remaining two years on his contract expire.

“I don’t know if I’ll stay with the Rangers my entire career.” – Henrik Lundqvist

Regardless of the comments to Expressen, there is no reason to believe he will not finish his current contract with the New York Rangers. Of course, they will need to cross that bridge when they get to it.

If Igor Shesterkin emerges as the number one, and Henrik isn’t ready for a backup role then you can see him moving on. The other factor even if he wants to stay will be contract amount.

For the immediate future, we should expect Lundqvist between the pipes next season and mentoring his heir apparent.
