With SKA being eliminated from the Gagarin Cup playoffs in the KHL, the time has come for Rangers goalie prospect Igor Shestyorkin to choose whether or not to come over to North America and officially join the Rangers. When he was asked about it, Shestyorkin gave some interesting answers.
Shestyorkin has long been thought of as the heir apparent to the throne of “King” Henrik Lundqvist. “The Czar,” as some Rangers fans have dubbed the 23-year-old from Moscow, has put up some crazy numbers while playing in the KHL. During his 133 game career playing in Russia’s top league, Shestyorkin had a .933 SV% and a measly 1.70 GAA. With Shestyorkin affirming that he has no qualms about playing in Hartford, it goes to show that he is committed to whatever plans the organization has for him.
Should Shestyorkin decide to come across the pond, it will make the Rangers goaltending situation even more interesting, as Bulgarian–Russian netminder Alexandar Georgiev, Lundqvist’s current understudy, shined in his elevated role this season.
