John Giannone give us even more reasons to love Mats Zuccarello

John Giannone has a unique perspective

John Giannone is the between the benches analyst during MSG broadcasts. He recently wrote a piece for the network’s website which everyone should read. His insights about the team at the mid-season mark are fantastic thanks to his unique perspective of being basically on the ice.

As I was reading, I simply could not stop thinking and laughing about this:

[su_quote cite=”John Giannone, MSG” url=”https://www.msgnetworks.com/teams/rangers/john-giannone/rangers-have-dreams-for-sweet-sixteen.html”]But every now and then, the interaction between opponents presents humorous or eye-opening snapshots. For instance, the time Mats Zuccarello – late in a game the Rangers had comfortably tucked away – encouraged an opponent to “score some goals, I have you in my fantasy league.” That brought a smile from the foe, even as defeat was imminent. Or the time “Zucc” told Sidney Crosby that Evgeni Malkin was his favorite Penguin. Crosby had no response.[/su_quote]

Curiosity had me immediately looking for who that player might be and there’s no doubt it was either Tyler Seguin or Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars. It is the only home game where the Rangers had a large lead (5 goals) late in the third period.

Still, I’m in tears thinking about him skating up to Crosby to tell him Malkin is his favorite Penguin. And he probably did it looking like this…

Mats Zuccarello is one of the most beloved Rangers on the team. From his nickname the “Hobbit” thanks to his size, or to his ridiculous long hockey stick, we just can’t get enough Zucc.

Thanks to John Giannone for endearing us just a little more.
