New York Rangers Power Rankings: February Top 5
The New York Rangers Power Rankings for player performance to close out February is here. They played four more games since our last update. In total, the team only had 7 games on schedule for the month.
Twice a month you’ll get an update about who’s going, who isn’t, and who to keep an eye on.
New York Rangers Power Rankings: End of February Top 5
Here’s a quick look at the player power rankings for the first half of February:
- Igor Shesterkin: 3GP, 2-0-1, .950 SV%, 1.59 GAA
- Artemi Panarin: 3GP, 1G – 3A, 13 SOG
- Chris Kreider: 3GP, 2G – 1A, 11 SOG, 1GWG
- Mika Zibanejad: 3GP, 2G – 1A, 8 SOG, 56.1 FO%
- K’Andre Miller: 3GP, 1G – 0A, 8 SOG, +1, SHOOTOUT GWG
Now, here are the rankings to close out the month:
- Igor Shesterkin: 3 GP, 2-1-0, .968 SV%, 1.01 GAA
- Mika Zibanejad: 4 GP, 1G – 3A, 14 SOG, 55.7 FO%
- Alexis Lafreniere: 4 GP, 2G – 1A, 4 SOG
- Artemi Panarin: 4 GP, 1G – 2A, 7 SOG
- Adam Fox: 4 GP, 0G – 2A, 8 SOG
Once again the team’s MVP leads the way. Igor Shesterkin’s goaltending has been stellar all season and he is without a doubt the Rangers player of the month for February.
On the skaters side, Mika Zibanejad has found another level in February. In a month where the team had some trouble scoring, he registered 3 goals and 7 points in 7 games.
Last update, we said to keep an eye Alexis Lafreniere:
Alexis Lafrenière is my player to watch. Last night against Detroit, the kid was going with 4 SOG and several excellent attempts. If he keeps firing the way he did on Thomas Greiss, hitting the post and also a downed Adam Fox in the back will turn into goals. He does have a tally this month, which came in the big win against the Panthers on February 1.
The 20 year-old came on strong and scored 2 goals and 3 points in 4 games to rank third for the second half of February.
Cold Rangers
- Filip Chytil: 1 GP, 0G – 0A, 2 SOG (2 healthy scratches)
- Alexandar Georgiev: 1 GP, 0-1-0, .898 SV%, 4.11 GAA
- Julien Gauthier: 4 GP, 0G – 0A, 2 SOG
- Dryden Hunt: 4 GP, 0G – 0A, 4 SOG
- Jacob Trouba: 4 GP, 0G – 0A, 12 SOG
Filip Chytil leads the way here for obvious reasons. When you can’t crack the lineup over Morgan Barron or Greg McKegg for two games, that’s saying something. Like a trade.
Alexandar Georgiev hadn’t played in a month and it showed against the Canucks on Sunday. He has lost 4 straight with his last win coming on January 8.
Julien Gauthier, Dryden Hunt, and Jacob Trouba round out the list. New York desperately needs more scoring. Simply put, they need to help.
Who to watch
My player to watch is K’Andre Miller. The sophomore defenseman is starting to jump up into the play and becoming a mote active participant in the offense.
NHL Rumors
Are the Canucks pulling J.T. Miller off the table? Plus what will the Habs do with Petry. Read more here.
