The New York Rangers invaded enemy territory for their first of three straight road games and came up blank.

It wasn’t for a lack of effort as they went hard after the New York Islanders peppering them with 41 shots. Only problem was another hot goalie in the opposing net as Ilya Sorokin stopped them all.

1st Period

The Blueshirts got into some penalty trouble early in this contest with Ryan Lindgren and K’Andre Miller being called for two in just a span of three minutes.

Once the dust settled on those penalty kills, the Rangers really started to get going as they came at the Islanders and Ilya Sorokin in waves.

The biggest stop of the period for Sorokin was off an incredible rush by Kaapo Kakko, who weaved his way around several Isles’ defenders before a right toe stop ended the chance.

When the first ended, it was 13 shots to 9 in favor of the Rangers.

2nd Period

Sorokin’s dominance carried through the second period as the Rangers were continuously denied.

Eventually, the Islanders would get on the board first on a broken play. Braden Schneider defended Kyle Palmieri well in the slot, but the puck went off his skate and back onto the stick of Palmieri for the goal.

The Isles fed off the goal and pressed the attacked which led to an Adam Fox trip on Anthony Beauvillier. On the ensuing power play, Fox’s partner Ryan Lindgren came up big with two huge blocks to keep the Rangers within 1.

3rd Period

The Rangers tried to get one by Sorokin but simply couldn’t.

When Josh Bailey scored with 5:37 into the final frame, the lead seemed insurmountable and it was.

Kyle Palmieri notched another goal late to seal the victory for the Islanders.

Notable Rangers

  • Jaroslav Halak stopped 26 of 29
  • Chris Kreider and Adam Fox each had 5 shots on goal
