NHL Trade Rumors Roundup 2/6/20

Tick Tock, Tick Tock, as the clock speeds up to the trade deadline. The LA Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs got the ball rolling with a trade last night that landed Kyle Dubas his sought after back up goalie. Let’s dive into that and more in this latest edition of NHL Trade Rumors.

Kings and Leafs kick it off

The Kings will retain 50% of Clifford’s salary but they have officially started the rebuild. Now the shift will be on moving D-man, Alec Martinez in the next few weeks. According to Elliotte Friedman he thinks Nashville is a likely destination.

As far as the Leafs are concerned, they get a cheap backup and some additional forward depth in order to trade Kasperi Kapanen for the top 4 defenseman they need.

Carolina and Georgiev?

The Rangers want an NHL ready forward for Alexandar Georgiev. The Carolina Hurricanes are looking for a goalie that could possibly become a starter. Of course, Carolina could also look for cheaper options if they decide they can’t meet the ask by Jeff Gorton. I consider them, San Jose and New Jersey the most willing to meet what the Rangers feel is fair.

Tata Tatar

The Montreal Canadiens are said to be listening to offers on the 29 year old forward who has one year remaining on his deal before being a UFA. Tatar would make a nice addition for any team looking for bottom 6th depth for the playoffs.

I think the Oilers have, at the very least, looked into Tomas Tatar. (Pittsburgh would be another team with interest.) GM Ken Holland knows him very well. Again, though, Montreal feels injuries derailed its season and wants to be competitive in 2020-21. So you’ve really got to move the needle to get the Canadiens’ attention.
