NY State opens to sports, Rangers waiting for NHL to begin phase 2

Governor Andrew Cuomo has said NY sports team can open their training facilities today. While that is great news, it must be tempered with the fact the NHL must give the green light for phase two.

“We have yet to set a date on which clubs may reopen their facilities for training and, eventually, formal training camps,” NHL group VP of communicationa John Dellapina told The Post via email. “We are still working with the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) on a league-wide plan to return to play.”

Regarding the Rangers

As soon as news broke, I contacted a Rangers spokesperson who was learning of it at the same time from the lips of the governor. “No one is allowed to open a camp on their own,” was the message I received. It would be unfair for any team to open in states permitted do so when others can’t. Regardless, another positive step in a return to hockey that‘s for sure.
