We are now steamrolling into the NHL Trade Deadline on the 24th. The Rangers have already made 2 minor deals this week which will be a precursor to two or more significant trades before Monday. So let’s take a look at the latest New York Rangers Trade Deadline Meter after Bob McKenzie and others dropped tons of new info in the last few days.
The Latest Meter
Once again, based on the latest information from around the league and what I’ve been able to learn, the meter represents the likelihood of a player being traded by the deadline on February 24th. Here is the latest meter showing Jesper Fast almost certain to be dealt and Chris Kreider moving up as well. The red arrows to the right of the meter indicate movement from the previous update.
Breaking it down
Interest in Jesper Fast has ticked up as I heard several teams have inquired on him (NYI, NSH, WSH, VAN, PHI). He could also be the first to go within the next 24 to 48 hours as the Rangers ask is at least a 2nd rounder. Last night, Bob McKenzie talked extensively about Chris Kreider. He feels that even though both sides continue to talk, it is more likely the Rangers trade him for a windfall. The team believes the return will be much better than what they received from the Jets for Kevin Hayes. Jeff Gorton is targeting as much as a 1st rounder, a prospect, an NHL player or prospect, and a conditional pick should Kreider re-sign with the acquiring team. With as many as 5 teams trying to land him, McKenzie believes a bidding war should net the Rangers close to what they are looking for and culminate this weekend or maybe on deadline day.
Lias Andersson has moved back up the list as McKenzie revealed the team is still taking calls on him. As far as I know, nothing has moved the needle and Andersson is still more likely to be traded at the draft. The two other big names are Alexandar Georgiev and Brady Skjei who could be involved in blockbuster type deals if they get moved at all.
To close out the update, both Pavel Buchnevich and Tony DeAngelo who were in the top 12 of the TSN Trade Bait List have been downgraded. Just a note, TSN dropped them dramatically into the late 20’s and I expect it to continue to fall on the their next update.
